Terms and Conditions of Sale

Garage Doors Direct Ltd — garagedoorsdirect.co.uk

Last updated: 12 October 2026

1. Who we are and how to contact us

1.1 We are Garage Doors Direct Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 13789572. Our registered office is Unit 2, Batford Mill Industrial Estate, Lower Luton Road, Harpenden, Hertfordshire AL5 5BZ. Our VAT registration number is GB 412 1603 53.

1.2 You can contact us by email at info@garagedoorsdirect.co.uk or by telephone on 0333 070 4377.

1.3 If we need to contact you, we will do so by telephone or by writing to you at the email address or postal address you gave us with your order.

2. These terms

2.1 These terms apply to every order you place with us, whether through our website, by email or by telephone. Please read them before ordering. They tell you who we are, how we will supply products to you, how you and we may change or end the contract, what to do if there is a problem, and other important information.

2.2 These terms are written for consumers — people buying for purposes wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession. If you are buying for business purposes, clause 15 also applies.

2.3 Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer. For advice about your rights you can contact Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk).

3. Made-to-order and stock products

3.1 Every garage door, side door and entrance door we sell is made to order. Once you select a size, style, colour and options, the manufacturer builds the door specifically for you. We refer to these as "Made-to-Order Products".

3.2 Operators (motors), remote controls, keypads, accessories and spare parts are generally held in stock and supplied as standard items. We refer to these as "Stock Products".

3.3 The distinction matters because Made-to-Order Products cannot be cancelled once in production and are not covered by the 14-day right to cancel (see clause 8). If you are not sure which category a product falls into, ask us before ordering.

4. Placing an order

4.1 Your order is an offer to buy. The contract between us is formed when we email you to confirm that we have accepted your order. The automatic acknowledgement sent when you complete checkout is not acceptance.

4.2 We may be unable to accept an order — for example because a product is no longer available, the configuration you selected cannot be manufactured, we have identified a pricing or description error, or your address is outside our delivery area. If so, we will tell you and refund any payment in full.

4.3 You are responsible for checking that the size, style, colour, opening direction, handing, operator and any options you select are correct before you complete your order. Made-to-Order Products are manufactured exactly to the specification you submit.

4.4 Please check your order confirmation carefully and contact us immediately if anything is wrong. Once a Made-to-Order Product is in production, changes are not possible.

5. Measuring, suitability and installation

5.1 We are a supply-only business. We do not install, and we do not arrange installation.

5.2 You are solely responsible for measuring your opening, checking that the product is suitable for your property and intended use, and confirming that there is enough headroom, side room and depth for the door and any operator to be installed and to operate correctly.

5.3 We are happy to answer questions and give general guidance on sizing and product selection. Any guidance we give is based entirely on the information you provide and is offered in good faith to help you. It does not transfer responsibility for the measurements, or for the final choice of product, to us. Measuring guides are published on each product page.

5.4 Garage doors are heavy, contain springs under high tension and, where motorised, involve electrical work. We strongly recommend that products are installed by a competent, experienced installer in accordance with the manufacturer's fitting instructions, and that any electrical connection is made by a suitably qualified electrician. Incorrect installation can be dangerous, may damage the product and will invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.

5.5 You are responsible for obtaining any planning permission, listed building consent, building regulations approval or landlord or freeholder consent that may be required.

6. Product descriptions, colours and specifications

6.1 We take care to describe products accurately, but images on our website are for illustration only. Colours and finishes may vary slightly from those shown because of screen settings, lighting and natural variation between materials and manufacturing batches. If colour matching is critical, ask us for a sample or the manufacturer's colour reference before ordering.

6.2 Manufacturers may make minor changes to specifications, components or design without notice. Such changes will not materially affect the product's performance or appearance.

6.3 Timber products are natural materials and will vary in grain, colour and texture.

7. Price and payment

7.1 The price of a product is the price shown on our website when you order, or the price we confirm to you in writing for orders placed by email or telephone. All prices include VAT at the current rate. Delivery charges are shown separately before you confirm your order.

7.2 Despite our best efforts, products may occasionally be mispriced. If the correct price is higher than the price stated, we will contact you for instructions before accepting your order. If the error is obvious and could reasonably have been recognised as a mispricing, we may cancel the order and refund you.

7.3 All orders must be paid in full at the time of ordering. We accept the payment methods shown at checkout. For orders placed by email or telephone we will send an invoice, and we place your order with the manufacturer once payment has cleared.

7.4 Ownership of the products passes to you when we have received payment in full. Risk passes to you on delivery (see clause 9).

8. Your right to cancel

Made-to-Order Products

8.1 Because Made-to-Order Products are made to your specification, the 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 does not apply to them.

8.2 As a goodwill gesture, you may cancel an order for a Made-to-Order Product free of charge within 24 hours of receiving our order confirmation, by emailing info@garagedoorsdirect.co.uk.

8.3 After 24 hours, we will ask the manufacturer to cancel the order if you request it. If the manufacturer confirms that production has not started and accepts the cancellation, we will refund the price less any charge the manufacturer makes to us and an administration charge of £50 + VAT (£60). If the manufacturer has started production, the order cannot be cancelled and no refund is due.

8.4 You may not return a Made-to-Order Product because you have changed your mind, measured incorrectly or ordered the wrong size, colour or specification. This does not affect your rights if the product is faulty or not as described (clause 11).

Stock Products

8.5 If you are a consumer, you have the right to cancel an order for Stock Products for any reason within 14 days after the day you, or someone you nominate, receive them.

8.6 To cancel, email us at info@garagedoorsdirect.co.uk, call us, or use the model cancellation form at the end of these terms. You must then return the products to us within 14 days of telling us that you wish to cancel.

8.7 Return the products unused, complete, in their original packaging and in a resaleable condition. You must pay the cost of returning Stock Products, and we recommend a tracked, insured service. Where an item is too large for parcel post and we agree to collect it, a collection charge of £120 + VAT (£144) will be deducted from your refund.

8.8 We will refund the price you paid for the products and our standard delivery charge (but not the extra cost of any premium delivery option) within 14 days of receiving the products back, or of you providing evidence that you have sent them. We may reduce the refund to reflect any reduction in the value of the products caused by handling beyond what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and function — for example where packaging has been opened and components used or fitted.

8.9 We do not charge a restocking fee.

9. Delivery

9.1 We deliver to mainland Great Britain. Delivery to some areas, including the Scottish Highlands and Islands, Isle of Wight, Isles of Scilly, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland, may be unavailable or subject to an additional charge. Please contact us before ordering.

9.2 Delivery charges are shown on the product page and at checkout.

9.3 Lead times are shown on each product page and in your order confirmation. They are estimates based on information from the manufacturer and are not guaranteed. If a product is going to be significantly later than the estimate, we will let you know. If we miss the estimated date, you may give us a further reasonable period in which to deliver; if we still fail to deliver within that period, you may end the contract and we will refund you in full.

9.4 We or the manufacturer will contact you to arrange a delivery date. Deliveries are made on weekdays and we can usually only confirm a day, not a time. Most Made-to-Order Products are delivered direct from the manufacturer.

9.5 Delivery is kerbside only. The driver will unload the products to the nearest safe and accessible point at the kerbside or, where safely possible, onto your driveway. Drivers cannot carry products into garages, through houses or up steps. The delivery vehicle needs suitable access, so tell us when ordering if access is restricted (narrow lanes, weight limits, no turning space).

9.6 Garage doors are large and heavy. An able-bodied adult must be present at the delivery address to help the driver unload and to sign for the delivery. If no one is present, or no one is able to assist, the delivery may be aborted and a redelivery charge of £120 + VAT (£144) will be payable before delivery is attempted again.

9.7 Risk in the products passes to you when they are delivered to the address you gave us. Please store products flat, dry and under cover until they are installed.

9.8 If you refuse delivery for reasons that are not our fault, or fail to arrange redelivery within a reasonable time, we may store the products at your cost or treat the contract as ended and charge you our reasonable costs.

10. Checking your delivery and reporting damage

10.1 Please inspect the products carefully on delivery, before signing. Check the packaging and, as far as is practical, the panels, frame and components for transit damage, and check that the size, colour and quantity match your order.

10.2 If there is visible damage, note it on the delivery paperwork before signing (write "damaged", not "unchecked"), take photographs and tell us straight away.

10.3 Please report any damage, shortage or discrepancy to us by email within 48 hours of delivery, with photographs. Prompt reporting allows us to raise a claim with the manufacturer or carrier and resolve the problem quickly. A delay in reporting does not remove your legal rights, but it may make it harder to establish that the damage happened before delivery.

10.4 Do not install a product that is damaged or does not match your order. Once a product has been installed we will not be able to replace it for visible damage or for discrepancies in size, colour or specification that would have been apparent on inspection.

11. Faulty products and warranties

11.1 We are under a legal duty to supply products that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in these terms affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. In summary: up to 30 days after delivery, if a product is faulty you can get a full refund; up to six months, if a fault cannot be repaired or replaced you are entitled to a full refund in most cases; up to six years, if a product does not last a reasonable time you may be entitled to some money back.

11.2 All products carry the manufacturer's warranty. The warranty period and conditions vary by manufacturer and product, and are set out on each product page. We pass the manufacturer's warranty on to you in full and will assist you with any claim.

11.3 Manufacturers' warranties are normally conditional on installation in accordance with the fitting instructions, correct use and regular maintenance. They exclude damage caused by incorrect installation, misuse, neglect, accident or modification, and normal wear and tear such as surface weathering, loss of lubrication and consumable parts (batteries, bulbs, seals).

11.4 To make a claim, email us with your order number, a description of the fault and photographs or video. The manufacturer may require an inspection, or ask for the faulty part to be returned, before agreeing a remedy. We will coordinate this with the manufacturer on your behalf.

11.5 Where a product is faulty, we will repair or replace it, or refund you, as the law requires, and we will bear the reasonable cost of collecting or returning it.

12. Our responsibility for loss or damage

12.1 If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or of our failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable. Loss is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen, or if both we and you knew it might happen when the contract was made.

12.2 We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for the rights summarised in clause 11.1.

12.3 We are not responsible for: (a) problems arising from incorrect measurements or an unsuitable choice of product; (b) damage caused during installation, or by installation that does not follow the manufacturer's instructions; (c) structural faults in your property or in the opening the door is fitted into; (d) damage caused by third parties; or (e) installer or other third-party costs incurred because a delivery is delayed, since delivery dates are estimates. Please do not book an installer until your products have been delivered and checked.

12.4 We are not liable for business losses. We supply products for domestic and private use. If you use the products for any commercial, business or resale purpose, we will have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.

13. Your account and use of our website

13.1 You may create an account to manage your orders. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for all activity under your account. Tell us at once if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

13.2 The content of our website — text, images, brochures, drawings, price calculators and configurators — is owned by us or licensed to us by the manufacturers. You may view and download content for your personal use in considering a purchase, but you may not copy, reproduce, scrape or use it for any commercial purpose without our written permission.

13.3 We try to keep the website accurate and available, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Technical information and measuring guides are provided to assist you and should be checked against the manufacturer's current documentation.

14. Events outside our control

14.1 We are not liable for delay or failure to perform our obligations caused by events outside our reasonable control, including manufacturer production delays, shortages of materials, carrier failures, strikes, severe weather, fire, flood, epidemic or government action. We will contact you as soon as possible to let you know. If the delay is likely to be substantial, you may contact us to end the contract and receive a refund for any products you have paid for but not received.

15. If you are buying as a business

15.1 If you are buying products for purposes relating to your trade, business, craft or profession, the following applies in addition to the other terms: (a) the cancellation rights in clauses 8.5 to 8.9 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 summary in clause 11.1 do not apply; (b) our total liability to you in connection with any order is limited to the price paid for that order; (c) we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or any indirect or consequential loss; and (d) returns of Stock Products are accepted at our discretion and may be subject to a restocking charge.

15.2 Where we have agreed trade account terms with you in writing, those terms take precedence over this clause where they differ.

16. Complaints and disputes

16.1 If you have a complaint, please contact us first at info@garagedoorsdirect.co.uk or on 0333 070 4377 and we will do our best to resolve it.

16.2 We are not currently members of an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme. If we cannot resolve your complaint, you may bring a claim through the courts.

17. Other important terms

17.1 We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation. We will tell you if this happens and make sure the transfer does not affect your rights. You may only transfer your rights to someone else with our written agreement, except that the manufacturer's warranty may be transferred to a subsequent owner of the property where the manufacturer permits it.

17.2 This contract is between you and us. No other person has any right to enforce any of its terms.

17.3 Each clause operates separately. If any court or authority decides that any of them is unlawful, the remaining clauses remain in full force.

17.4 If we delay in enforcing this contract, we can still enforce it later.

17.5 We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your order are those in force when you place it.

17.6 These terms are governed by English law, and you can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland you can bring proceedings in either the Scottish or the English courts, and if you live in Northern Ireland, in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
